WHAT IS THE TLI UNIT?

The TLI Unit is one of the three executing arms of the Board for Non-Campus Countries and Distance Education established in August 1996 to promote, manage and deliver the work of the University in the non-campus countries and in off-campus centres and tertiary institutions in the campus countries. The School of Continuing Studies and the Distance Education Centre are the other two entities responsible for University Outreach. The Chairman of the Board for Non-Campus Countries and Distance Education is Pro-Vice-Chancellor Woodville Marshall.

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE TLI?

The fundamental mission of the TLI Unit is to enhance access to tertiary education in the region by linking the University’s resources, programmes and services to the development of tertiary education institutions in non-campus countries in the region and to those located off-campus in the campus countries. The TLI Unit is guided by the objectives of the Board for Non-Campus Countries and Distance Education and as such plans its activities and programmes to promote:

  1. the planned development of tertiary institutions so as to increase output of graduates to support the human resource development needs of the region;
  2. curriculum reform for improving the quality and effectiveness of graduates;
  3. expansion of certificate/diploma/ degree and continuing education programmes, and extension activities in response to national and regional priority needs not currently addressed;
  4. rationalization of the further development of tertiary level programmes for students in the non-campus countries and for off-campus students in campus countries.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE TLI UNIT?

The main objectives of the TLI Unit include:

  1. to manage articulation arrangements and processes between UWI and other regional Tertiary Level Institutions (TLIs);
  2. to promote institutional development of regional TLIs, thus enhancing their capacity to deliver portions of or full degree programmes;
  3. to undertake research designed to improve tertiary level development, and
  4. to design, procure funds for and manage special projects to address identified tertiary education development needs.

HOW IS THE TLI UNIT ORGANIZED?

The TLI Unit is headquartered in Barbados at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and is headed by a Director, Dr. Bevis F. Peters. At the Cave Hill Office, there is also a Senior Project Officer, Mrs. Vivienne Roberts, a Planning/Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Kieran St. Rose and a Secretary, Mrs. Janetha Long. There is also an Office at the Mona Campus with a Project Officer, Mrs. Jeanette Grant-Woodham, a Planning/Administrative Assistant, Mr. Nigel Brissett and a Secretary, Miss Audrey Lewin.

WHAT ARE THE COUNTRIES SERVED BY THE TLI UNIT?

The Cave Hill Office has responsibility for operations in Barbados, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.

The Mona Office serves Jamaica, Belize, Bahamas and Cayman.
