Within the Barbadian Diaspora lies a deeply embedded cultural attitude cultivated at the primary & secondary school, where Cricket among other sports has a level of class attached to it. Yet we introduce both sets of sports at the schools, leaving students in a paradoxical position of engaging them for health, social, and recreational purposes and also wanting to aspire to be great cricketers for professional purposes.
So while both may be equally important at one level; at another level, one is at the cost of the other and in terms of the history everything concerning cricket is recorded, yet there is hardly any documentation on Track & Field. If it is a sport who determines its history, it still rest on classism so Track & Field isn’t even worth documentation. Furthermore who determines which sport represents National Identity? Is there a need to broaden our focus on sports development to include other sports and let them enjoy similar
benefits as Cricket?
