Research topic.
Teachers’ beliefs as determinants of their use of inquiry-based instructional practices. An assessment of the status of the implementation of the primary school science and technology curriculum in St. Lucia.
Synopsis.
The study will utilize quantitative methodologies to determine teachers’
- self efficacy beliefs
- epistemological beliefs, and
- applicability beliefs
of inquiry based science instruction in the context of their teaching of science in the primary school classroom. In addition, teachers’ actual use of inquiry-based approaches will be measured and causal comparative procedures will be used to determine the impact of teachers’ beliefs on their use of inquiry-based approaches.
