My name is Angela Carrington (PhD Biochemistry candidate) in the Biological and Chemical Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Scantlebury-Manning. My work examines the link between atherosclerotic vascular disease (AVD) obesity and Type II diabetes mellitus using noninvasive or semi-invasive tests.
Measures of homeostatic function are examined using plasma/serum, histological and cellular preparations, anthropometric, and ultrasound values to ascertain the state of wellness. The aim is to determine the most effective panel of tests that along with a specific clinical examination protocol could aid in the identification of asymptomatic persons with AVD thus allowing the customization of healthcare.
