Research Funding by the School of Graduate Studies & Research
The purpose of the Staff Research Awards and Graduate Research Student Awards fund is to provide financial assistance to as many members of staff and research students as possible to enable them to adequately carry out their research, and communicate and publish the results of research.
The University provides research grants and graduate awards to Departments /Faculties and students as follows:
i) research projects
ii) conference participation/research visits
iii) thesis preparation
iv) publications
Application forms are available in the Document Library.
Forms should be submitted by the prescribed deadline, to the Campus Coordinator, School for Graduate Studies & Research.
Research grants are awarded to Departments/Faculties only for research projects that involve research students and the funding is normally restricted to capital items.
In establishing priorities for a research grants the Campus Committee is guided by the following considerations:
(i) The urgency of the programme/projects
(ii) The contribution it is likely to make to the Caribbean region
(iii) The likely effect on the further development of graduate studies
(iv) Manpower needs within and outside of the University.
In addition the following information is required before an application is accepted to a research programme.
- Written proposal by the student
- Quality and feasibility of the project
- Clear direction from supervisors
- Joint or Co-supervision
- Identification of a Committee of Advisors
- Equipment and materials required for research
All of the above as well as completed reports on the expenditure on previous grants must be communicated to the School for Graduate Studies and Research.

Applications on the prescribed forms (see Document Library) are to be submitted to the Campus Coordinator, School for Graduate Studies & Research, Cave Hill, for consideration by the Campus Committee on Research Awards.
Applications for grants are invited by means of advertisements placed on the University Notice Boards.
Deadline Dates for Application will be clearly stated in the advertisements.
The Campus Committee requires a report on the expenditure of the grant and on the progress of the research project.
Applicants must read the Rules Governing Research and Publications Fund Committee and the Reporting on Grants from the Campus Research and Publications Fund: Guidelines for Members of Staff. All documents are available in the Document Library
The Faculty of Pure & Applied Studies offers paid employment as demonstrators to some students pursuing research in specific areas. Enquiries should be made to the Head of the Department and/or Dean Faculty in which the student is pursuing a higher degree.
Graduate students may be employed within the University for up to twelve (12) hours a week without losing their full-time student status.
