IGDS: NBU considers activism to be integral to our mission of transforming gender relations in the Caribbean. The Institute supports initiatives which recognize that inclusive development must center concerns around gender equity to capitalize on the full potential of its citizens.
The Institute has worked with the Caribbean Women's Association, the National Organisation for Women, UN Women, the Caribbean Policy Development Centre, other departments at The UWI and various embassies to promote this mission.

Additionally, our partnership with the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination and the Caribbean Policy Development Centre, the Institute produced a short public service announcement to educate the university community and wider public about the importance of Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality. Quotes

" The challenge of the twenty-first century is to demystify these political and ideological relations and expose them for what they really are--that is, strategies of accumulation of capital by any means necessary. This should be the real work of civil society organizations, that of contesting power of transnational capital and engendering democracy at all levels, not just articulating empty platitudes about a generalized empowerment. "
