Biography

Ms. Keisha Mascoll is currently employed as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of West Indies Cave Hill Campus. She is a graduate of UWI Cave Hill having attained a BSc Chemistry (2003) and MPhil Chemistry (2007) both degrees were awarded with honors. After successfully completing her training Ms. Mascoll has held numerous appointments at UWI.  She was a member of the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences working as Laboratory Demonstrator, Tutor and Part-time Lecturer.

Her professional experience is not only limited to UWI as she also held the position of Executive Research Assistant at Emerald Biodiesel where she would have been integral in the establishment of a biodiesel facility.

Ms. Mascoll joined the faculty of Medical Sciences in 2009 and is now one of the senior members of the laboratory staff where she trains the students in the use of medical instrumentation, supervises all anatomy practicals, basic science laboratory sessions and assist with the teaching of clinical skills. After receiving her certification in Phlebotomy from AMT, she now works as a phlebotomy trainer to deliver an extensive theoretical and practical course for all students who are transitioning to the clinical phase. She has retained her membership with AMT and keeps up-to-date with her certification by completing her CE credits via online courses and annual convention attendance.

She currently serves as a University Safety Officer and has participated in numerous internal and external workshops to increase her knowledge base in this area. To this end she has recently completed a Biosafety Level 2 training course from UTMB and has been using this to enhance the management of the bio-hazardous and chemical waste from within the Faculty. In addition to ensuring that there are continuous practical improvements to workplace safety and utilizing the safest standards for the working environment.

Her primary interest in the near future is to expand her scope to include the preparation and dissection of anatomical specimens for teaching, and demonstrate her commitment to continuous improvements in Medical Laboratory Technology.
