ABOUT THE AWARDS

The University of the West Indies is pleased to announce the Arthur Lewis Awards for study at the Cave Hill Campus. Open to nationals of the OECS, for full‐time study towards a degree in any discipline, with the exception of Law and Medicine.

The programme honours the memory of the Caribbean’s most celebrated economist, the late Sir Arthur Lewis of St. Lucia. Read more about Sir Arthur Lewis »


WHO CAN APPLY

  • Nationals of the OECS who have gained admission to the UWI at Cave Hill
  • Nationals of the OECS who expect to qualify for entry to the Cave Hill Campus


AREAS OF STUDY

A degree in any discipline offered at the Campus except Law and Medicine.
Admission to the University does not guarantee an award.


DURATION OF AWARDS

The awards shall be for a period of up to three (3) years


VALUE OF AWARDS

The value of each award shall be equal to the value of the economic cost and tuition fees applicable to the Cave Hill Campus for the duration of the Award. The Awards will not include amenities and guild fees, living or other expenses including books, or incidental expenses.


TENURE

The continuation of the Awards shall be subject to the following:

  • Reports of good conduct
  • Satisfactory academic progress
An Award may be withdrawn at the discretion of the Principal on the recommendation of the Campus Undergraduate Awards Committee if the student fails to maintain the required standard.

Completed scholarship and confidential Financial Needs forms should be submitted to: Records Section, Cave Hill Campus, P.O. Box 64, Barbados or faxed to (246) 425‐1327.


Deadline for submission of applications is January 31 of the expected year of entry/award. Note that the deadline has been extended to February 28, 2013.


SELECTION PROCEDURE

The Campus Committee for Undergraduate Awards will make the selection based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated capacity to complete the course of study
  • Academic merit
  • Financial need
