There are several scholarships and bursaries available to undergraduate and graduate students.

Applications are invited for the following Bursaries and Scholarships which will be available for the academic year 2009/2010 at the Cave Hill Campus.

Academic Bursaries
Awarded on the basis of applicant’s Academic Record with specific reference to the student’s performance in the 2008/2009 university examinations (GPA 3.0 and above).
VALUE: BDS$2,230.00

 

Co-Curricular Bursaries
Awarded on the basis of contribution to university life, as evidenced by the student’s participation in co-curricular activities. (Minimum GPA 3.0 is required.)

Anthony & Joy Bland Scholarships

ELIGIBILITY: Caribbean Nationals reading for a degree in LAW who have completed Part I and are registered to continue in Parts II and III of the LLB programme.

CRITERIA: Academic merit but some consideration may be given to financial need.

VALUE: Scholarships - BDS$5,000.00 each   (2) Bursary - BDS$2,500.00

Barbados Community Foundation Scholarships

ELIGIBILITY: Nationals of Barbados who have completed Level I of the programme reading for a degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and Financial Need.

ELIGIBILITY: Barbadian nationals enrolled at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus

DEGREE: Major in Management Studies including courses in Industrial Relations

Barbados Olympic Association Scholarships

ELIGIBILITY: Two (2) 4-year awards to nationals of Barbados who:

(1) have obtained admission to the UWI, Cave Hill Campus to read for a first degree in any field of study.
(2) Achieved a high level of performance in at least one sporting discipline under the aegis of the International Olympic Committee.

CRITERIA: Academic Merit and sporting performance.

VALUE: BD$2,500.00 each per annum.

Barbados Shipping & Trading Co. Ltd. Scholarships

ELIGIBILITY:– Two 2-year awards to nationals of Barbados;

One (1) for a student reading for a degree in Management Studies, which can include a major or minor in any Social Sciences discipline and the other majoring Computer Science or Information Technology with Management whether as a major or minor. Candidates must be under the age of 25 years on 31st of January, in the year of the award. He/She must have successfully completed Level I of the programme with at least a GPA 3.3 and should be entering Level II of the programme.

CRITERIA: Academic Merit and involvement in extra curricular activities. Consideration will also be given to Financial Need.

VALUE: BDS$5,000.00 each per annum.

Candidates will be required to undertake two (2) work attachments in the Summer within the Barbados Shipping & Trading (BS&T) Group of Companies during the two-year period.

CampusBoyz® Entertainment Educational Bursary

ELIGIBILITY: 2 awards are open to CARICOM nationals who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus to read for a degree in any discipline. . Candidates must be between the 16 – 25 years of age pursuing a first degree, first year, full-time studies at the Cave Hill Campus.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and financial need.

ELIGIBILITY: Nationals of Barbados who have completed the first year of study in the Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences.

Chefette Restaurants Scholarships

NO. OF SCHOLARSHIPS: Two(2)

ELIGIBILITY: Nationals of Barbados who are (a) children of staff members of Chefette Restaurants Ltd., who have gained admission to The University of the West Indies to pursue full-time study leading to a degree in any discipline.

CRITERIA: Academic merit.

VALUE : BDS$2,500 each per annum

In the event that no applicant eligible under (a) qualifies for the Scholarships, the awards shall be open to other nationals of Barbados who are full-time students at the UWI, Cave Hill Campus

Cidel Bank& Trust Inc. Scholarship

No of Awards: One (1)

Eligibility: Open to nationals of Barbados who have completed Level I of the programme, reading for an undergraduate degree in Management, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology or a combination of these. A minimum 3.3 GPA average is required.

Criteria : Academic Merit and Financial Need

Value: BDS$5,000.00

 


David Nathaniel King Memorial

ELIGIBILITY: Open to any CARICOM national admitted to the Faculty of Law as a full-time candidate for the LLB degree, and who in the final year of the LLB programme, has received the highest Grade not lower than A in the Course Offshore Financial Law. In the event that there is more than one candidate receiving the same highest grade in the course, the winner of the Scholarship may be determined by considering the actual Marks each candidate received in the Final Examination in the Course.

CRITERIA: Academic merit

Edmund Cohen Scholarship

NO. OF AWARDS: One (1)

ELIGIBILITY: Nationals of Barbados and countries of the OECS who gained admission to the Cave Hill Campus to pursue a first degree in Medical Sciences or are in Level II or III programme of the Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences, majoring in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In the case of applicants from the Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences, preference will be given to persons pursuing courses in Energy related studies.

Equity Insurances Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: The award is open to a BARBADIAN who must:

      • be undertaking a first degree, at the undergraduate level;
      • pursue studies at the Cave Hill Campus
      • demonstrate dire financial need
      • be under the age of 25 years when scholarship is first awarded;
      • maintain passing grades

Ernst & Young Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: Caribbean nationals registered in the Level II programmes and reading for degrees in the following areas: Management, Economics and Management, Computer Science and Management, Accounting, Accounting and Economics, Accounting with minor in Economics, Computer Science and Accounting.

CRITERIA: Academic merit. Financial need may also be taken into consideration

VALUE: BDS$6,000.00

It is expected that the successful candidate will undertake a summer internship at Ernst & Young during the period June – August before entering final year.

FirstCaribbean International Scholarships

NO OF SCHOLARSHIPS: Fifteen (15)

ELIGIBILITY: The Scholarships are offered to students at any campus of the University of the West Indies in any discipline as follows:

• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of Barbados
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of Jamaica
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of Trinidad & Tobago
• Two (2) scholarships for nationals of the Bahamas
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of the OECS territories
• One (1) scholarship for a national from any Caribbean country who is the child of an employee of the Bank.

CRITERIA: Exceptional academic performance

Sir Frank Walcott Scholarship Fund Enabling Grants 2008/2009

The Sir Frank Walcott Scholarship Fund invites applications for a limited number of Enabling Awards from persons accepted for or already enrolled in a course of study at one of the following:

  • The University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus)
  • The Barbados Community College
  • The Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic
  • The Barbados Institute of Management & Productivity


    The awards are being made in recognition of the significant and unique contribution of Sir Frank Walcott to the advancement of workers and his vision for continuing education and training for all.

Goddard Enterprises Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: Open to nationals of Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines registered in Accounting, Agriculture, Computer Science, Engineering and Management Studies, who have successfully completed one academic year of study at the UWI leading to a degree in that discipline. Priority will be given to students pursuing a degree majoring either in Computer Science or Management Studies.

CRITERIA: Academic merit.

Herman C. Stoute Memorial Fund Scholarships

Four (4) Scholarships are available:

•  Three (3) for Barbadian nationals who are past or present students of Combermere School who have been accepted for a degree programme by the University of the West Indies and

•  One (1) for nationals of Commonwealth Caribbean Countries contributing to the University of the West Indies other than Barbados.

Students must be enrolled in a degree programme at this Campus.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and Financial Need.

VALUE: US$1,500.00 each



Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: Nationals of Barbados entering Level III of the programme and reading for a Degree majoring in Accounting.

VALUE: BDS$2,500

CRITERIA: Academic merit. Consideration will also be given to contributions to the social/cultural life of the Campus.

Insurance Corporation Of Barbados Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: - Open to nationals of Barbados majoring in an Accounting or Management option, and who have completed at least one year of study in the relevant discipline at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Kregg Nurse Award For Vision And Fortitude

ELIGIBILITY: Open to students registered at the Cave Hill Campus to read for a degree majoring in any discipline. The awardee must have successfully completed at least one year of study at the Cave Hill Campus.

The award shall be based on nominations from the Deans of Faculties and/or the Guild of Students. Nominee must have identifiable personal challenges in order to be considered. Nominees for the award should have demonstrated success in overcoming personal challenges.

Kurleigh King Memorial Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: Two 2-year scholarships open to nationals of Barbados who are entering the Level II programme of the B.Sc. in Computer Science.

Mendes/Boyd Scholarship (formerly CA-NAL)

ELIGIBILITY: Nationals of CARICOM countries in any Faculty entering their Penultimate or final year - in the case of Medical students, those who are entering their Clinical Year; in the case of B.Ed. students, those who are entering their final year.

VALUE: CAN $1,000.00

CRITERIA: The Award will be based on academic merit, leadership qualities, extra-curricular involvement and financial need.

Pfizer Caribbean Science Prize

ELIGIBILITY : Students registered for a major in Biology, Chemistry or their sub-disciplines in the Department of Biological & Chemical Sciences and have completed Level II of the programme.

CRITERIA: Academic Merit and Financial Need. Participation in extra-curricular activities will be further used to rank the candidates.

VALUE: BDS$1,000.00

The Police Wives Association [Barbados] Educational Awards and Bursaries

 

The Award is open to all persons who have gained admission to a University to pursue full-time study leading to a degree. Special consideration will be given to children of persons directly employed with Law enforcement agencies.

  1. The Bursaries are open to persons pursuing full-time study at a University or Tertiary Level Institution. Bursaries may also be awarded for Technical level study.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and financial need

VALUE:

Scholarship: BDS$ 2,500.00 per annum
Bursaries: The value of the bursaries shall be determined annually.

 

Pricesmart Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: 1-year award available to CARICOM nationals who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies to read for a degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

CRITERIA: Financial Merit.

ELIGIBILITY: 2-year award to nationals of Antigua, Barbados, Grenada and St. Lucia entering the Level II programme and reading for a degree majoring in Accounting, Management or Computer Science.

The Ralph Boyce Scholarships (sponsored by the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Ltd)

NO. OF SCHOLARSHIPS : TWO (2)

ELIGIBILITY : Nationals of Barbados who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies to read for a degree in any discipline. Candidates must be between the ages of 16-25 years and pursuing a First Degree, first year, full-time studies at any Campus of the University of the West Indies. Candidates must be members in good standing of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited for at least three (3) years.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and Financial Need

VALUE: BDS$7,500.00 for studies at Cave Hill Campus, BDS$9,000.00 for studies at any other Campus of the University of the West Indies.

 

Richard Cheltenham Q.C. Scholarships

NO. OF SCHOLARSHIPS : TWO (2) and ONE (1) Grant

ELIGIBILITY : The scholarships are open to nationals of Barbados and countries of the OECS who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies , Cave Hill Campus to read for a Degree in the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and financial need

VALUE:

Scholarship: BDS$3,500.00 each

Grant: BDS$2,000.00 per annum

 

Sagicor Life Inc. Scholarship (1)

ELIGIBILITY: Open to nationals of Antigua & Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago to read for a degree majoring in the field of Business Studies and who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies.

CRITERIA: Academic Merit

VALUE: BDS$5,000.00 per annum

Sagicor Life Inc. Scholarship (2)

ELIGIBILITY: Open to nationals of Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, to read for a degree majoring in one of the following disciplines viz. Accounting, Computer Science and Business Administration: who have successfully completed at least one academic year of study at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus leading to a degree in that discipline.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to a national of Barbados who is (1) under the age of 21 on the 31st December in the year of the award; (2) obtained admission or is qualified for admission to the University of the West Indies; (3) reading for a first degree in Business and Administrative Studies and other areas of social need including:- Medicine, Agriculture, Engineering, Education and Social Administration.

Scotiabank Eastern Caribbean Scholarship Programme


NO OF SCHOLARSHIPS: One (1) Per country listed below

ELIGIBILITY: Open to nationals of Anguilla, Antigua/Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada. St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines who has obtained admission to the University of the West Indies and to the Programme in respect of which he/she has applied for the scholarship.

CRITERIA: Academic merit and Financial Need.

TENURE: Up to three (3) years

VALUE: a minimum of EC$15,000 – EC$25,000 per annum or as determined by each of the above-mentioned countries.

The Sol Group Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: Open to nationals of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada and Carriacou, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines, who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies to read for a degree majoring in one of the following disciplines: Accounting, Computer Science or Management Studies.

CRITERIA: Academic merit.

VALUE: BDS$5,000.00 per annum

Sylvia Gore Moseley Memorial Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all students of the University of the West Indies who have completed at least the first year of study in any Faculty at any Campus or in any of the countries of the UWI-12 and who are continuing into second or third year programmes in any Faculty at the Cave Hill Campus.

CRITERIA: Financial Need. Academic performance should only be taken into account as a tie breaker.

VALUE: BDS$3,000.00 per annum. In addition, there shall be a textbook GRANT of $600.00 payable as a refund on the presentation of the relevant receipts.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to nationals of Dominica who are undergraduate students registered for a major in Hotel/Tourism Management at the Cave Hill Campus.
