Welcome

An interdisciplinary conference examining the broad theme: 'Trajectories of Freedom: Caribbean Societies - Past and Present' will take place on the Campus of The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados, from Wednesday, 23 May to Friday, 25 May 2007.

The theme of the conference is inspired by the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade throughout the British Empire, which will be celebrated during 2007, but it is also intended to problematize and interrogate shifting notions and expressions of 'freedom' as they have evolved in Caribbean societies and as they are applied in the context of the contemporary Caribbean.
