The Journal of Caribbean History

Articles and Correspondence with the Editor / Books for Review / Subscription Information / Most Recent Issue

The Journal of Caribbean History is published (two issues each year) by the Departments of History and Philosophy, University of the West Indies. The editors will consider for publication articles on aspects of Caribbean History, including the histories of the mainland territories of North, Central and South America, where these are related to the Caribbean.

Editor: Alvin Thompson
Reviews Editor: Carl Campbell
Other members: Fitzroy Baptiste, Alana Johnson, Brian Moore, Brinsley Samaroo, Kelvin Singh, Pedro Welch, Swithin Wilmot.
Consulting Editors: Hilary Beckles, Bridget Brereton, Patrick Bryan, Pieter Emmer, B. W. Higman, Woodville Marshall, Colin Palmer, Fernando Picó

All articles and correspondence with the editor should be addressed to:

Professor Alvin Thompson,
The Journal of Caribbean History,
Department of History,
University of the West Indies,
Cave Hill Campus,
P.O.Box 64, Bridgetown
BARBADOS, W.I.

Books for review should be sent to:

Authors should submit their articles on an IBM-compatible diskette, preferably in Word Perfect format, along with two hard copies (print-outs). They should send with each article a brief abstract (not more than 100 words) of its content. They should also submit a short note about themselves, including any academic or institutional affiliation.

Articles in French, Spanish or Dutch will be accepted and may be published either in the original language or in translation or in both. If a translation is made, the author's approval of it will be sought before publication.

In addition to articles, we invite the contribution of research notes and notices of books or theses in Caribbean History currently in progress.

Articles and book reviews (both text and notes) should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted on quarto (8'/2" x 11") paper. Endnotes (not footnotes) should be used. The endnote format included in most word-processing software should be avoided. Instead, footnote numbers should be generated manually, using superscript. Otherwise, wherever possible, the default settings in the software should be used (for tabs, margins, etc.). Quotations should be in double inverted commas (quotations within quotations in single inverted commas). The titles of published books and journals should be in italics (not underlined), and the titles of articles in double inverted commas. Repeat references to a single cited work by an author should only bear the author's name and pagination (e.g. Smith, 44). Where more than one work by the same author is used repeat references should carry a short citation which serves to identify the work (e.g. Smith, Caribbean Society, 48). Archival sources and other references to depositories should carry the reference to the depository first (e.g. C.O. 11 1/46, Bathurst to Beard, 12 June 1818).
