Regulations for Graduate Degrees
It is the responsibility of students to familarise themselves with the regulations governing the graduate degrees available in booklet form from the Campus Office of the School for Graduate Studies and Research. Students should note in particular the regulations concerning:
Section 1: General Regulations:
Entry requirements (Reg. 4-8)
Application procedure (Reg. 9-19)
Appointment of Supervisors (MPhil and PhD candidates) (Reg. 20-30)
Registration procedure (Reg. 31-44), especially
annual deadline (Reg. 34)
full-time vs part-time status
leave of absence (Reg. 40)
Changes in registration (Reg. 45-53), especially the following clauses:
full-time students are allowed to work a maximum of 12 hours per week (Reg. 51)
students may not shift from full-time to part-time in order to extend their studies (Reg. 53)
Time limits (Reg. 54-59):
i. MPhil (Full-time students:2 years min. - 3 years max.; part-time students: 2 years min. -5 years max.)
ii. PhD (full-time students: 3 years min. - 5 years max.; part-time students: 3 years min. - 7 years max.)
iii. Extensions (Regs. 60-62).
Withdrawals (Reg. 60-62)
Course of study:
Taught MA: topics for Research Papers must be submitted two months prior to submission (Reg. 71) MPhil/PhD Research Degrees:
i. Research seminars (Reg. 73)
(a) MPhil students are required to make 2 seminar presentations
(b) PhD students are required to make 3 seminar presentations
ii. Progress report on each MPhil/PhD research student is submitted each semester
(Reg. 74-76)

The marking scheme used in the Faculty of Humanities and Education in the assessment of oral presentations, term papers, and examinations is set out below:
