African intellectuals were mir=
ed in
the energy sapping diversion of showing the existence of African phil=
osophy
as a thought system, and as a field of study for half a century, while
their various countries suffered the denundation=
of human, natural and economic resources by their detractors. T=
he Caribbean societies, demographically miniscul=
e and
geographically scattered, have been able to contribute more per capit=
al
in all areas of human endeavour. No=
less
has been in the field of intellectual discourse, in deed more that one
would expect from a people of oppressed traditions. The
philosophies spurned in this society have been r=
evolutionay
and challenging. Hence, the view defended in my essay is that t=
here
is a corpus of text that is "Caribbean Philosophy", and this
text has to be studied, used and taught in the Caribbean as it has be=
en
done outside of the Caribbean for more that half a century.
