About the School of Education
The School of Education at Cave Hill aims to be a centre of excellence with respect to teaching, research and human resource development in education for the Eastern Caribbean sub-region. A major challenge facing the School in pursuit of this overall goal is to maintain an optimal balance between these strands given its human resources.
The School at Cave Hill has a long history of human resource and outreach contributions to the quality of teacher education in the Eastern Caribbean. The School aims to make such developmental activities and research in teacher education the core around which to pursue an optional blend of its contributions to the development of the educational systems in the Eastern Caribbean region.
The major responsibility of the School of Education is staff and programme development in all aspects of teacher education in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. The developmental role of the School is further underlined through the advisory/technical services it provides to the various educational systems and the requirement for research related to the enhancement of teacher education.
In order to respond to the changing needs of the sub-region it serves, the School of Education currently engages in the following complementary programming activities:
1) Developmental outreach and research in teacher education. This programming includes substantial involvement in projects, namely:
- The OECS/UWI/DFIDC Primary Education Project
- EDUTECH 2000
- The OECS/EDF/UWI Secondary Teachers' Training Project
