Contemporary – and controversial – Trinidadian writer Shani Mootoo will be visiting the Department of Language, Linguistics and Literature during the week of November 17 th . Planned activities include a master class in creative writing, a special class on Caribbean women's literature and the launch of her new book at a public reading in the Arts Lecture Theatre on Wednesday, November 19 th , to which all are welcome. The Department is also hosting a one day symposium, with papers on Mootoo's work by scholars from three campuses of the University of the West Indies as well as Reading and Sussex Universities . The writer will be in attendance, participating in dialogue with presenters and students.

The Lecture entitled "Derek Walcott's One Endeavour", will be presented by Prof. Bernard Boxill, Professor Pardue, Univ of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on Tuesday March 14 in the ALT at 8.00 p.m.
The Workshop will be held from 2 pm on Wednesday, March 15 in the Bruce St. John Conference Room. Professor Boxill will present a paper on calypso and rap.
