Advice to Undergraduate Students
Students majoring in Literatures in English should note the following:
In addition to satisfying the specific requirements for a major in Literatures in English, all students registered in the Faculty must also meet the General Requirements for the BA Degree. In other words, in addition to completing the minimum requirements in the area of their major, students are required to complete other courses.
To this end, students must complete the 4 mandatory Foundation Courses and may register for courses in other disciplines both within the Faculty of Humanities and Education (Classical Literatures, Education, French, Gender Studies, History, Philosophy, Psychology, and Spanish) and without (to a maximum of 10 courses).
Please note that, whatever their course work mark might be, students must pass at least one question in the final exam in order to pass any course in Literatures in English.
Students who fail courses in Literatures in English usually do so because they fail to keep up with course readings. It is quite simple: in order to learn about texts, and how to analyze them, you have to allow time to do the required reading. It is a good idea to get booklists, acquire core texts and read ahead of lectures in order. The wider your reading, the more you will get out of your degree program; and believe it or not, the more pleasure you will experience as books become friends! |
