FREN0101/F01A Beginners' French I An intensive course for students who have little or no knowledge of French.

FOUN0102/F01B Basic French II An intensive course designed to improve the oral and written skills of candidates successful in F01A.

FREN0118/F01R Reading Course in French F01R may be offered in fulfilment of the language requirement of the Faculty of Humanities. The emphasis is placed on the comprehension of written French in simple theoretical and practical examples of the language.

FREN1001/F10A Intermediate French I The course prepares students to (a) make practical use of written French at a preliminary level; (b) follow the essential points of written discourse; (c) understand the main ideas of spoken French in a variety of practical situations; (d) discuss abstract topics with a native speaker.

FREN1001/F10B Intermediate French II This course requires students to make practical use of written French beyond the level of F10A via such activities as the writing of business letters and the comparison of the text of a job offer. They will also be required to understand the main ideas of spoken French in recordings of radio broadcasts.

FREN1303/F13C Introduction to French Literature This course serves as an introduction to Metropolitan French Literature from the Classical to the Contemporary period and will give insights into the novel, drama and poetry.

FREN1304/F13D Caribbean and African Literature in French This course serves as an introduction to the literature of French-speaking Africa, and the French Caribbean, and will focus mainly on the novel and poetry, with emphasis on the pivotal role of the Negritude movement.

FREN2001/F20A Advanced French I The course exposes students to the vocabulary, style and syntax of the very formal or technical writing on such topics as agriculture, tourism, meteorology, inflation and the environment.

FREN2001/F20D Advanced French II The course prepares students to express themselves in situations which require lengthy use of the language at formal levels.

FREN2101/F21A French Phonology and Morphology This course offers a study of selected topics in the phonology and morphology of modern French.

FREN2102/F21B French Syntax and Semantics In this course, students will study selected topics and semantics of French.

FREN2214/F22N Francophone Culture This course offers an introduction of the culture of French-speaking countries.

FREN2301/F23A African Literature in French I This course focuses on the development of the French African novel from the colonial to the post-Independence periods.

FREN2302/F23B African Literature in French II This course focuses on Francophone poetry from the Negritude movement of the 1930's to the present as well French African drama.

FREN2414/F24N Francophone Literature and Film In this course, cinematic versions of Francophone novels are studied in conjunction with the written texts themselves.

FREN2501/F25A French Drama: Corneille to Hugo This course focuses on the major developments in French tragedy and comedy from the Classical to the Romantic period.

FREN2502/F25B French Moralists from Pascal to Rousseau This course focuses on major writings (mainly prose) of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that deal with man and his relationship to both God and society.

FREN2514/F25N The French Novel from Mme. de la Fayette to Zola The course traces the development of the novel from the Seventeenth to the Nineteenth century with special emphasis on realism.

FREN2601/F26A French Poetry This course traces the development of French poetry from the post-Romantic period with an emphasis on Symbolism and Modernism.

FREN2602/F26B The Modern French Novel The course focuses on the artistic and intellectual features of the novel in the Twentieth century.

FREN2614/F26N Modern French Drama This course focuses on major dramatic developments from the end of the Nineteenth century to the present.

FREN3003/F30B International Business French This course is designed to improve students' command and comprehension of written and oral French while familiarizing them with the terminology and phraseology used in international business French.

FREN3014/F30N French for Tourism This course is designed to create oral and written competence in French in areas related to the tourism industry.

FREN3101/F31A French Translation A systematic approach to the translation of a wide range of language styles, with emphasis on non-literary translation.

FREN3104/F31D Areas of French Translation This course provides translation practice, especially from French into English, in specific areas of translation such as Agriculture, Commerce, Tourism, the Environment, Meteorology, Caribbean society.

FREN3501/F35A The French Caribbean Novel Substitute for RP300: Caribbean Studies. The course focuses on the French Caribbean novel from the 1950's to the contemporary period with emphasis given to special areas such as the situation in Haiti and women writers.

FREN3502/F35B French Caribbean Poetry and Drama Substitute for RP300: Caribbean Studies. The course focuses on the development of French Caribbean poetry and drama from the 1930's to the present day with special emphasis on the Negritude movement.
