FOLKLORE, LANGUAGE, LITERATURE,
AND HISTORY OF THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN

Fourth Annual Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS

Place: St. Lucia

Date: November 8 - 10, 2001

Folklorists, theatre practitioners and historians, anthropologists, ethnographers, sociologists, literary scholars and critics, linguists and historians are invited to submit proposals for the conference.

Topics:

  • African and European traditions in (Eastern) Caribbean performance
  • Culture and Economics
  • Amerindian History and Cultural Studies
  • Carnival in the Eastern Caribbean
  • Popular Culture of the Eastern Caribbean
  • Tradition in the drama, poetry and fiction of the Eastern Caribbean
  • Eastern Caribbean Culture in an era of globalisation

The above list of suggested topics is not intended to exclude any papers focussing on the conference theme of Folklore, Language, Literature and History of the Eastern Caribbean.  The area includes the islands which have English, French or Dutch as the official language.

Each paper will be allotted thirty minutes--twenty minutes presentation followed by ten minutes of questions.

Submissions should include:

  • A cover letter containing:
    • the title of the paper,
    • the author's/authors' address,
    • fax number*,
    • e-mail address*,
    • institution*, and
    • a 25 word summary suitable for publication in the programme;
  • One page containing a 250-word abstract of the paper;
  • One page containing a 50-word biography of each author.

Deadline for submissions: August 31, 2001.

*Do not be deterred if you have none of these.
