Water Taxi Training Pack - Caring for our coasts
This Training Pack is about caring for our environment and our future – particularly with
regard to the coastal environment and the people who live in Caribbean islands. The
materials in this Training Pack may be used by anyone who enjoys sharing information
about environmental stewardship with others.
Why was this Training Pack created?
This Training Pack was originally created to serve as an easy reference for trainers and
participants – mostly water taxi operators -- involved in workshops relating to
environmental stewardship in the Grenadines.
The materials in this pack support endeavours to build awareness and encourage
activities that advance management of marine resources and sustainable livelihoods in
the Caribbean.
How can you best use this Training Pack?
The materials in this Training Pack provide you with effective educational and communications tools that can be used exactly as you find them – or, you can modify
the materials to suit your own initiatives.
Please remember to acknowledge the source(s) of materials when you are using
them, and state if you have adapted them.
– For example; “This graph, adapted
from the book, “Coral Growth in the Caribbean” by E.D. Smith (1961)” or, “Photos
courtesy of Edward Smith”.
Each of the materials in this Training Pack can be used alone or in combination with
other materials from the pack. In addition, the effectiveness of these materials may be
enhanced if you use them in combination with materials from other training packs. Two
training modules prepared for the Barbados 4Cs Project are complementary to this
Training Pack. They are called, “Collecting Information about Corals – Training
Module”, and “The Caribbean Coral Restoration Training Module”.
Other Training Packs that are also very useful are: the, “People and Corals” training
pack that is available from the Caribbean Conservation Association ; and/or copies of the educational “Building Blocks” produced by the OECS-Natural Resources Management Unit during the 1990’s.
