Inaugural Gladding Memorial Award Regional Fishers Summit
Cumana, Venezuela

This historic meeting will see regional fishers from throughout the English, Spanish and French-speaking Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico join scientists and researchers to find common solutions for some of the most vexing issues facing the fisheries of the Wider Caribbean. It will take place as part of the scheduled sessions of the 62nd Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute Conference at the Instituto Oceanografico de la Universidad de Oriente in Venezuela as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Institute.

The 62nd GCFI Conference will be hosted by the Instituto Oceanografico de la Universidad de Oriente in Venezuela as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Institute. The opening address will be presented by Dr. Daniel Pauly, Professor and former Director, Fisheries Centre, University of British Columbia; Principal Investigator, Sea Around Us Project.

The seventh meeting of the main advisory body of the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM). On the agenda of this two-day multi-level CARICOM meeting is the draft Common Fisheries Policy & Regime. The MarGov team is representing UWI as observers at the forum.

The Centre for Maritime Research (MARE) at the University of Amsterdam holds its fifth biennial conference, People and the Sea V: living with uncertainty and adapting to change’. This conference bridges several debates on coastal change and questions how people, around the globe, are tackling the challenge of living with uncertain futures and adapting, or not, to a myriad of changes. International Marine Conservation Congress 2009, Making Marine Science Matter

The Marine Section of the Society for Conservation Biology will be hosting its first stand-alone meeting, the International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC). The IMCC is aimed at advancing marine conservation by facilitating discussion among scientists, managers and policy makers and developing science-based products that inform policy change and implementation.

The First Special Meeting of the Ministerial Council Meeting of the CRFM
St Vincent and the Grenadines
This meeting of ministers responsible for fisheries across the CRFM member states will be devoted to reviewing the amendments to the Draft Common Fisheries Policy proposed by the 4th Special Meeting of the Caribbean Fisheries Forum on the basis of recommendations made at the CRFM multi-disciplinary working group meeting that took place in Guyana in April.

This follow-up to the January workshop will continue to provide fisherfolk leaders with up-to-date information on fisheries initiatives in the region so as to encourage their active participation in advancing fisheries policy recommendations.

CANARI partners will review collaboration with MarGov, such as through the small grant facility, and discuss projects on the role of civil society in governance.

The First Ministerial Council Meeting of the CRFM
St Vincent and the Grenadines

This special meeting marks the first time that ministers responsible for fisheries across the CRFM member states will devote an entire day to deal solely with fisheries related issues.

Regional Fisherfolk Organisation Policy Influence and Planning
St Vincent and the Grenadines

This meeting, hosted by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is co-sponsored by CANARI, the CRFM, the CTA, CERMES, and the Commonwealth Foundation. This meeting also contributes to a two year Commonwealth programme on marine fisheries management and coastal zone communities, which urges Commonwealth member states and institutions to recognise the global decline in fish stocks, and to take urgent steps to put both marine and inland fisheries on a sustainable footing.
