FirstCaribbean International Bank - UWI Case Analysis Competion 2009

A strong performance saw the Cave Hill Campus team win the FirstCaribbean Chairman’s prize for Best Case Analysis at the FirstCaribbean International Bank Case Analysis Competition held at the Mona Campus on June 2, 2009.

Cave Hill’s quality analysis however was not enough to steal the limelight from hosts, the Mona Campus, who were the eventual winners, winning the competition for the third successive year.

The Cave Hill team was led by Faculty Advisor and Lecturer in Accounting, Mr. Donley Carrington, and comprised final year students: Grenadian Donrick Slocombe, BSc. Accounting; Phillip Beechan, BSc. Banking and Finance from Guyana; Vincentian Kechewia L O Charles, BSc. Banking and Finance; and Shenique Joseph, an Antiguan student studying in the BSc. Banking and Finance programme.

The competition was the final one under the current 2007 – 2009 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the UWI and FirstCaribbean International Bank. This MOU saw FirstCaribbean International Bank contribute $125,000 USD every year to a number of university projects and initiatives including the Business Case Analysis Competition for students; a Case Writing Competition for UWI staff; research in banking and finance, scholarships for students; the FirstCaribbean Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Lecture and the expansion of the FirstCaribbean Suite in the Solutions Centre at the Cave Hill Campus.
