The Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit IGDS: NBU is a dynamic unit within the University of the West Indies (UWI) engaged in a programme of teaching, research and outreach on women and gender issues in Caribbean society. IGDS Cave Hill uses gender analysis to investigate material and ideological relations of gender affecting Caribbean women and men. It is particularly concerned that there are institutionalised gender inequalities for women.  It seeks to expose and transform these to create a more just society. Read more »

To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Institute will be hosting a public lecture on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Theatre 4 of the CLICO Centre for Teaching Excellence, The University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.  The lecture is  entitled “Investigating the Shifting Terrain of an Indo-Barbadian Ethnic Identity” and it will delivered by Ms. Haajima (Hajra) Degia, Lecturer in Sociology at the Barbados Community College and Part-Time Lecturer in Sociology at The University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
